The event, which took place in the field between Nanuet High School and the George W. Miller Elementary School, featured bouncy attractions for children, food, a performance by local rock group The Mighty Spectrum Band, and, of course, an explosive fireworks show.
For Eddie Courtney of The Mighty Spectrum Band, the event's success was plain to see before it even began.
"We have a great turnout and it's a great night with the weather. I'm excited for the fireworks!"
To usher in the festivities, Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann addressed the crowd of hundreds. He expressed gratitude for the community’s continued support of the annual event and acknowledged New City resident Richard Benabi’s service in the Vietnam War by presenting him with an honorary pin from the Town of Clarkstown.
“We have recognized over a hundred Vietnam Veterans from Clarkstown by presenting them with a pin at a public event and will continue to do so throughout the year as more Vets step forward. We are doing this as part of a nation-wide movement to recognize Vietnam Vets which started this year.”
For Hoehmann, family fun and patriotic solidarity are essential to a wholesome, community oriented celebration of our nation’s independence.
